Import your ModHeader profiles into Wirelet
Wirelet reads the JSON file that ModHeader exports. The imported profiles are added after yours: nothing you already have in Wirelet is changed or deleted. A report then says what was kept, adapted, ignored or switched off.
First: do you have an export file?
ModHeader is no longer available on the Chrome Web Store or on Microsoft Edge Add-ons, so it can’t be installed again to export your profiles.
- ModHeader is still installed and enabled in your browser: export now, from step 1.
- You saved an export file before: start at step 2.
- ModHeader was removed, or your browser turned it off: its profiles can no longer be exported, and Wirelet has no other way to read them. Recreate them in Wirelet instead: paste a header copied from the developer tools, or a curl command, and its headers are added to the profile.
Step by step
- In ModHeader, use its export to JSON and save the
.jsonfile. - Install Wirelet: Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
- Open Wirelet’s settings: click the Wirelet icon in the toolbar, then the gear (“Settings”), and go to “Import and export”.
- Under “Import a file”, click “Choose a file” and pick your ModHeader export.
- Read the report: its first line counts the imported profiles that are switched off, then each profile comes with its switch and its notes.
- Switch on the profiles you need, one by one or with “Switch on all”. Your browser then asks for access to their sites: allow it, or the profile shows “Blocked” until you do.
What the report shows
The first line counts the profiles, for example “3 profiles imported, all switched off: switch on the ones you need.” Then each profile has its switch and its notes:
- Adapted
- A setting Wirelet applies a little differently: a comma-separated append applied as an append, an empty value that removes the header (as ModHeader does), a URL filter converted to sites.
- Ignored
- What Wirelet has no equivalent for: URL replacements (Wirelet only changes headers), ModHeader’s cookie list (use a Cookie header), its own Set-Cookie and CSP lists (use a response header).
- Off
- A profile that would apply more widely in Wirelet than in ModHeader is imported switched off: an exclusion Wirelet can’t match exactly, a filter by request type, tab, window, time or method, a filter it doesn’t know. So are the profiles that weren’t in use in ModHeader, and those beyond the free plan’s limits.
Wirelet never makes a profile apply more widely than it did: when a filter can’t be kept exactly, the profile stays off until you check its sites.
Free plan
The free plan allows up to 3 profiles on at a time and 10 active headers in total. Profiles beyond that are imported switched off, and nothing is lost. During early access, Pro features, unlimited profiles included, cost nothing.
